  1. Domaine Bachey-Legros Vieilles Vignes Santenay 'Clos des Hates' 2018 is a lovely, classic Burgundian Pinot Noir. Six generations of the Bachey-Legros family have worked on this small Domaine. The character of the wines comes from the old vines. The old vines are in the walled Clos des Hâtes vineyard, surrounded bySantenay Premier Cru sites, and were planted in 1935. The low-yielding vines and terroir translateinto very concentrated grapes. Fruits including red cherries, blackcurrants and raspberries dominate the nose and there is a hint of that familiar vegetable aroma found in developing top class Burgundies. On the palate black fruits give way to sweet, ripe, red fruits on a lovely long finish. The texture is sublime, very smooth, and the wine medium-bodied, the acidity still relatively crisp but will soften further and the tannins are evident but fine. This wine drinks very well now but the smoky tannins, acidity and rich fruits indicate that it will develop further in the bottle.
